ND:YAG Laser

How It Works

This laser is a long wavelength laser capable of penetrating deep beneath the skin into the superficial blood vessels which creates heat to target diseased cells and superficial veins.

The heat generated from the ND:YAG laser coagulates the blood inside the superficial veins, causing it to collapse and seal,  so no further blood flow occurs. This lack of blood flow is what gradually makes the superficial veins disappear.

What It Treats

This laser can effectively treat many skin conditions but it’s the most effective at treating unwanted blue, red and purple veins and lesions on the face and body. It is also a great treatment option for freckles and some pigmented birth marks while sparing the surrounding skin.

Number of Treatments Needed

The number of treatments depends on the severity of the affected areas and can be anywhere from 3-6 sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.

Common Treatment Areas

Common treatment areas include the face, neck, chest, hands and legs.

Who Benefits

The ND Yag can benefit all skin types and those wanting to treat superficial veins and capillaries on the face, chest, hands, neck, and legs.

What To Expect

After treatment you can expect darkening of the treated vessels along with minor redness and swelling that should resolve after a few days.

You may also notice a cat scratch like appearance along the vessel site treated that will be temporary while the vessel begins to seal.

After Care Instructions

It is always important with any laser treatment to be mindful of your sun exposure for 1-2 weeks pre and post procedure for best results and to wear sunscreen.

Avoid unprotected sun exposure for at least 30 days and always use a sunscreen when any sun exposure is possible (SPF 30 with UVA/UVB protection).

It is recommended that you refrain from exercising, hot baths, NSAIDS, and alcohol five days after treatment for best results.

If your skin is sensitive after the treatment you can apply a 1% hydrocortisone cream, aloe, or take Advil for discomfort.

Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer for 14 days after treatment.

Do not use corrective, exfoliating or active skincare products for 7-10 days after treatment.
